We arrive in Shanghai safely and a little dazed, in the afternoon. We meet Tony the tour guide who will be with us throughout the tour. As we visit different areas, we will be joined by local tour guides who will take us through the sites.
The Huangpu river runs through Shanghai, dividing the city into 2 regions: Pudong on the East and Puxi on the West. We'll be staying in Pudong. We're taken to our hotel for a rest and then out for dinner.
Every meal we have on the tour will have a bottle of pop and beer ready at the table. There will also always be dish and chopstick rinsing with the tea or pot of boiling water before eating, for fear of dirt, or in Hong Kong the fear of bleach residue.
We thought this was a large mushroom, but it turned out to be a bun shaped like a mushroom top that you fill with a stir-fry of tofu, beans and pork. Quite tasty. Most of the dishes, as we will experience in the rest of China, are quite oily.
No asian meal is complete without some fruit. We end the day with some fruit shopping in the market across the street. I think these are persimmons.
