We take the train to Santander. It would be faster by bus, but we're already right across from the train station.
We drop our bags at the hotel and explore town. The main reason we're in Santander is because it is close to Puente Viesgo, which we'll go see tomorrow.
We run some errands and I find a pair of jeans. We're in Santander at a good time as it's the middle of the Semana Grande festival. There's lots of live music at night and pintxos bars set up stands outside in the plazas.
We have dinner at Meson Rampalay. Some dishes are listed on the board, so we make a list on a napkin of things we want to try and I edge my way to the bar to give it to a waitress. Sophia saves us a space at a barrel. Soon the waitress yells for me from the bar and other bar patrons help pass over our food. We have "Pulpo a la gallega" (Galician octopus), which is inferior to what we will experience in Santiago de Compostela (ok, we're not in Galicia yet, I can feel cousin Diego shaking his head). We also have a brocheta of mushrooms, cachón en su tinta (squid cooked in it's own ink), and a pintxo of egg, ham and some sort of minced meat. Our barrel is covered with food. Bar patrons comment on our order.
We enjoy some live music as we walk off dinner.
