My first big trip to Asia! We would start in Shanghai and embark on a 17 day tour through Hunan (湖南), Sichuan (四川), and Yunnan (云南) province and end in Guangzhou. Then we'd have 10 days on our own in Hong Kong. I'd be traveling with my parents, my Aunt Angela, and Auntie Tong and Auntie Lucy (two family friends). I was prepared for it being a different pace than I'm used to, but I was looking forward to seeing the motherland, learning a bit more about my family history and perhaps seeing my parents in a different context.

Settling down for a 15 hour flight direct to Shanghai. Mom enjoys her new travel footstool that will make the flight more bearable. I'm amused by the asia-fied meal choices on Air Canada for this flight: Chicken and fried rice, a Cup of Noodle, Juk for breakfast (rice porridge).
